Adelaide Convention Bureau is the peak independent body for business events in South Australia. The Bureau’s membership - approximately 200 businesses and service providers - share a common interest in conventions, exhibitions, incentive tourism and much more. The BioMed City has created fertile ground for successful international and domestic conventions in the fields of health, medicine and related science and offers a direct line to leading specialists and institutions operating across Adelaide and Asia Pacific. The University of Adelaide, University of South Australia and Flinders University are three major universities making significant contributions to global R&D across various schools of science covering medicine, biology, chemistry, environment, technology, engineering and more.

Included in Adelaide’s BioMed City are: the New Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), which, opened in 2017, is one of the largest and most advanced hospitals in the world; The University of Adelaide’s Health and Medical Sciences Building supporting 1500 medicine, nursing and dentistry students and 400 health sciences researchers; the University of South Australia’s Health Innovation Building (HIB) housing the Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB) and up to 250 of Australia’s top cancer researchers; and the South Australian Health And Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), incorporating state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment and housing over 600 researchers practicing world-leading medical and technology innovation across several key themes such as Cancer, Heart Health, Nutrition & Metabolism, Mind & Bran, Infection & Immunity, Aboriginal Health and Healthy Mothers, Babies & Children. SAHMRI 2 is due to open in 2020 and will house the only Proton Therapy Unit in the Southern Hemisphere, expanding Adelaide’s capacity to conduct ground-breaking research, and dramatically increase Australian patients’ access to the best care.

Convention Venue



In 2017 the Adelaide Convention Centre opened its brand new East Wing, part of a major twostage transformation which has significantly increased capacity and flexibility of the venue and incorporates state of the art, versatile meeting facilities. Situated on the picturesque River Torrens the Centre is ideally located adjacently to over 3,000 hotel rooms, Adelaide’s BioMedical Precinct and within close walking distance of sporting and entertainment venues.

Included in the facilities are a new Plenary Hall seating up to 3,500 delegates, 32 flexible, multi-purpose meeting rooms of all sizes, 20,000㎡ of pillar-less exhibition space, a 600 -seat Panorama Ballroom with spectacular views, two rotating‘seating pods’in the plenary hall create revolutionary break-out space for 300 delegates each and state of the art audio-visual and Wi-Fi technology allowing 12,000 individual connections. Extensive, light-filled foyer spaces with panoramic views are available for all types of functions, registration and exhibition space.

The Centre is a Gold Certified Earth Check venue with environmental sustainability and social responsibility embedded as part of its culture.
