Scientific feature

Toulouse is the centre of the European aerospace industry, with the headquarters of Airbus Group, Galileo positioning system, the SPOT satellite system, ATR and the Aerospace Valley, considered as a global cluster.


Aerospace Valley is a French cluster of aerospace engineering companies and research centres. More than 850 affiliated companies are responsible for the creation of 120,000 jobs in the aviation and space flight industries.

In addition, some 8,500 researchers are active within the affiliated companies and institutions.
The cluster’s stated aim is to create 40,000 new jobs within the next 20 years. Since its inception in 2005, the cluster has initiated more than 900 research projects with a total budget of 1.2 billion euros, including 285 million euros in government funding.


Oncopôle embodies and represents the “health sector” throughout the world; merging task force surrounding transdisciplinary research, the specification of each stage of drug development, personalized medicine and the overall sectors of health and beauty. In other terms, this strategic, scientific and economic continuum located on a 220-hectare health innovation campus, brings together all skills surrounding the patient.


In 2018, Toulouse is hosting ESOF (EuroScience Open Forum), the largest interdisciplinary science meeting in Europe. It is dedicated to scientific research and innovation, offering a unique framework for interaction and debate for scientists, innovators, policy makers, business people and the general public.
